The Project

A story told for millennia. A passion everlasting.

The Bristol Passion Play will be a large outdoor procession following the last week of Jesus’s life.

We will take you from Psalm Sunday (in Castle Park), where Jesus addresses the crowds, to the more intimate scene of The Last Supper (on King Street). From there we will take you to the Gardens of Gethsemane (in Queens Square), then on to The Trial (at Lloyd’s Amphitheatre) and finally The Crucifixion (on College Green).

Along the procession route will be choirs and performers from all walks of Bristol life, helping us to celebrate the city, our heritage and of course, Christ’s sacrifice for mankind.

It will be a spectacular and deeply moving performance capturing the joy and hope that was felt by the people of the time as well as the fear and despair as they sent Jesus to his death. Despite the size of the event there will be moments of deep intimacy when the audience have the opportunity to reflect on the difficulty and depth of passion that was felt by Jesus and those around him.

This will be a flagship event for the City of Bristol, illustrating and bringing together the amazing and diverse communities that make up its creative and eclectic population. Alongside the main performance, the variety of unique artists performing along the procession route will help to tie the Passion story into the different cultural sides of our multifaceted city.

The principle and junior cast, production team, supporting artists and audience will all have a love of Bristol uniting them. Whether from a background of faith or not, we know that this performance has the ability to bring the whole city together while taking in some of our most famous historic sites in the heart of Bristol.  And, after the past two years, an event that brings joy and reconciliation to our wonderful, diverse and vibrant home is exactly what is needed.

We want to ensure that this production is representative of all cultures, of all ages, from all sides of our wonderful city, so please volunteer to be a part of it in any way you can. We will need you! So, if you want to be involved with something spectacular and are passionate about working together, get in touch!
